Winter is a great time for trees!

Pruning on most species is best done in winter on most species growing in our area. Although it’s not the appropriate time for Pest Control, the dormant season is a perfect time to review your Pest Management strategies for past and current pests so controls can be implemented at the best time based on the pest life cycle.

Zipline: Why climb through the canopy when you could just fly through it. Sometimes we employ a similar system to get limbs and debris away from the tree over sensitive unmovable obstacles.

Structure: This tree failed unnecessarily because it had structural defects that could have been mitigated to prevent damage. Buildings have structural codes to follow and we view trees in very much the same way. Imagine trees as growing living structures that require just a little bit of pruning to prevent a lot of damage. Thankfully this tree is still young and we expect it will have a good recovery and hopefully receive more regular attention so it doesn’t have any more failures as it continues to grow.

Snow... Remember if your tree isn’t optimally pruned for structure, using your hose to spray off snow works great and keeps you at a safe distance from danger. We sure hope we don’t ever have to repeat 2014.
